Riding on an unbeaten 142 by opener Biswajit Bhuyan, Odisha fought back to draw their four-day Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Elite Group A match against Mumbai at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai today.
Host Mumbai, however, gained three points by virtue of taking a first-innings lead of 327 runs, while Odisha settled with one point. Odisha were 283 for two in the second innings when the match ended in draw.
Bhuyan, who scored a half-century in the first innings, hit 20 boundaries in his 411-ball second-innings knock. He gave Odisha a solid foundation in the second essay, compiling 157 runs for the opening wicket stand with Raghunath Malla, who slammed 52. Bhuyan added another 115 runs for the unfinished third-wicket partnership with Sandeep Pattanaik, who remained unbeaten on 60, hitting 11 fours and one six.
Earlier, Mumbai declared their first innings at 575 for eight, in reply to a decent total of 248 by Odisha, who were put to bat by opposition captain S Mulani. Armaan Jaffer and S Mulani hit a double century and a century respectively for Mumbai. Subrat Samal was another successful Odisha batsman, scoring a half-century in the first innings.
